How might nanotechnologies shape our future? What opportunities do advanced materials offer for medicine, electronics, and environmental protection? These and other questions are explored in a new popular science brochure, Nanotechnologies of the Future, prepared by researchers involved in the AMULET project. Just published, the brochure is intended for anyone curious about the fascinating world of materials research.

The brochure provides an accessible overview of selected research objectives and results achieved within AMULET – Advanced MUltiscaLe materials for key Enabling Technologies, a project coordinated by the Heyrovský Institute of the CAS. Through a series of thematic articles, it introduces the work of individual research teams within the project consortium and demonstrates how fundamental research contributes to the development of new materials and technologies.

The AMULET project focuses on the research and development of advanced materials across multiple length scales, from the atomic level to their integration into functional systems. The results of this research have the potential to drive future innovations in electrical engineering, medicine, and environmental technologies. Interdisciplinary collaboration and the assessment of the social and economic impacts of emerging technologies are also important aspects of the project.

A Joint Effort by Researchers from Several Institutions

The brochure was created by a team of authors representing several institutions involved in the AMULET project. The contributors are Jana Kalbáčová Vejpravová (Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University); Eliška Mikysková, Magdaléna Hromadová, Michal Trčka, and Zuzana Sochorová Vokáčová (Heyrovský Institute of the CAS); Zdeňka Kolská, Viktorie Neubertová, and Jaroslava Jarolímková (CENAB, Faculty of Science, Jan Evangelista Purkyně University); Roman Elashnikov, Oleksiy Lyutakov, and Václav Švorčík (Faculty of Chemical Technology, University of Chemistry and Technology Prague); Markéta Bocková, Jiří Homola, and Jiří Slabý (Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the CAS); Filip Steiner (Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the CAS); and Anna Macková (Nuclear Physics Institute of the CAS).

Read the Brochure Online or Pick Up a Printed Copy

Nanotechnologies of the Future is now freely available online here (in Czech language). Printed copies will also be available at public outreach events organised by the Heyrovský Institute of the CAS, including the upcoming Czech Academy of Sciences Week.

The brochure offers an opportunity to discover research taking place in a world invisible to the naked eye, yet one whose discoveries could significantly shape the technologies we use in everyday life.
